This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

March 19

Today's Reading: Job 42:10-11

It is important to note that the Hebrew word translated "evil: in verse 11 carries the sense of calamity, disaster or harm rather than moral evil. There are a number of Scriptures that make it clear that God is not the author of evil:

James 1:13–14 (ESV)
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.

1 John 1:5 (ESV)
5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

However, it is important to also note that even though Satan was the one who tormented Job, because God is sovereign, there is a sense in which God is the one who brought the adversity into Job's life.
