Today's Reading: Isaiah 9:6-7; Isaiah 11:1-5
We looked at the passage from Isaiah 9 in some detail in the sermon last Sunday. God promised to send His light into the world in the form of a baby - but not just any baby! That baby would be 100% man - he would be "born" - and 100% God - the names He is given belong to God alone.
In Isaiah 11, we get a further description of that light. He will be from the line of Jesse, King David's father. He will be totally righteous and judge righteously.
Both of these passages can't possibly describe anyone other than Jesus. At Christmas we celebrate the fulfillment of these promises.
