Today's Reading: Psalm 46:1-11

Read the passage and answer these two questions:

1. What doe this passage teach me about God and His attributes?
2. How should that understanding about the nature of God impact the way that I live my life?

My observations from Psalm 40:
There are several attributes of God that David refers to explicitly in this Psalm: His steadfast love (we've seen this frequently in the Psalms we've been reading), His righteousness, His mercy, His faithfulness. But there is another attribute of God that is demonstrated here, too. David understands that God is more concerned with our hearts than our outward actions. That's why merely going through the outward actions of making offerings and sacrifices is not pleasing to God unless it reflects true sorrow and repentance in our hearts.

One thing that God has been working on in my life this year is helping me to understand the importance of developing my inner man - my soul and spirit - rather than focusing on what I do.
