Today's Reading: Hebrews 8:1-13

Here Jesus is described as the high priest of the "new covenant". The author cites Jeremiah 31 where God had promised to establish a new covenant with His chosen people. Jesus is the fulfillment of that promise.

God always intended that the law and the Old Testament sacrifice system were only "a copy and shadow" of the new covenant that was inaugurated with the death and resurrection of Jesus. Because that new covenant is so superior to the old, the old covenant is now obsolete. That does not mean, however, that the Old Testament doesn't have much to teach us.
