Today's Reading: Isaiah 53:1-12
Isaiah 52:13-53:12 comprise the last of four "servant songs" that are found in chapters 40-55 of the book of Isaiah. Here the Messiah is described as God's servant who will suffer in order for sinful men to be brought into a relationship with God. Isaiah recognizes that he, like the rest of mankind, has gone astray and that the suffering servant is God's chosen way to make it possible for our sins to be forgiven so that we can have a relationship with God.
Much of the world seems to have a hard time believing that God would choose to save us in that manner. I think that is largely because of our pride. We want to believe that we have something to offer God or that we are good enough on our own to have fellowship with a holy God. But the fact is that salvation is reserved for those who are humble enough to admit that they are sinners in need of a savior and who are willing to trust in Jesus as the fulfilment of God's plan to save us.
Have you humbled yourself and put your faith in Jesus alone as the basis of your salvation or has your pride gotten in the way and kept you from doing that? Want to learn more about what it means to put your faith in Jesus? I'm here to help you with any questions you might have.
