Today's Reading: 1 Kings 13:1-34
This is a very interesting chapter, especially the account of the "man of God". Although God uses him to confront Jeroboam, he is later deceived by another prophet from Bethel. And because he chooses to listen to the lies of that prophet rather than the word of God, He is killed by a lion on his way home.
My initial reaction was that this seems unfair. The man of God believed the prophet who claimed to have a word from God. But as I considered this further, it is clear that the man of God had heard directly from God and should not have listened to anyone else who contradicted what God had told him directly.
The lesson for us is pretty obvious. God has spoken to us in His Word. Therefore we are not to listen to anyone who says something that contradicts His Word, even if that person claims to have heard from God.
