This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

June 16

Today's Reading: Psalm 118:1-29

This is clearly another Messianic Psalm.

Jesus quotes from verse 22 when He is telling the Jews that since they have rejected Him, His kingdom is going to be taken away from them and given to the Gentiles who will willingly receive it. Peter also quotes that verse in Acts 4 when speaking to the Jewish religious leaders. Peter also quotes from that verse in 1 Peter 2.

When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the people who were shouting praises quoted from verse 26 since they believed that Jesus was the Messiah. Unfortunately, just a few days later, many of those same people turned on Jesus when it became clear that He was not going to be the kind of Messiah they wanted and expected.

We need to make sure that we don't fail to follow Jesus when He doesn't act according to our preconceived ideas of who He is.
