This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

June 14

Today's Reading: Psalm 51:1-19

David wrote this powerful Psalm after Nathan confronted him about his sin with Bathsheba. As king, David certainly had the ability to continue to cover up that sin. He could have gotten rid of Nathan. But here is where David demonstrates that he is a "man after God's heart".

When confronted with his sin, he acknowledges his sin to God. That is what confessing our sin means - we agree with God that our sin is sin. We don't try to cover it up or justify it or excuse it or ignore it. David clearly understand that  even though our sins impact others, all sin is ultimately against God.

This Psalm is also important because is reveals that when we do sin, God isn't really interested in us doing some outward act. He wants us to mourn over our sin like He does and to let Him give us a new, clean heart.

Are you dealing with some besetting sin i your life? Pray this Psalm as your prayer to God.
