Today's reading: Luke 2:1-52
In this chapter, we find three witnesses to whom God revealed that Jesus was the "Christ", the promised Messiah:
God chose to reveal the birth of the Messiah to three ordinary people or groups of people. And each of the three immediately told others about what they had witnessed. They are a great reminder that we don't have to have a bunch of education or training to tell others about Jesus (although knowledge and training can certainly make us more effective). We just have to tell others what Jesus has done in our lives. Will you do that today?
In this chapter, we find three witnesses to whom God revealed that Jesus was the "Christ", the promised Messiah:
- The shepherds. Interestingly the uneducated shepherds to whom the angels announced the birth of Jesus became the very first witnesses to share Him with their neighbors.
- Simeon. He had been waiting in the Temple for many years to see the Messiah, when the Holy Spirit revealed to him that Jesus was the one. He pronounced a blessing on Jesus.
- Anna. This 84 year old woman had also been waiting patiently for the Messiah. Once she saw Jesus, she began to testify about him to all who were willing to listen.
