Today's Reading: Psalm 110:1-7
Jesus quotes verse 1 of this Psalm to prove that He is the Messiah. Obviously God would never address David as "my Lord", so this must be a prophecy of Jesus. Peter also quotes that verse in his sermon on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:34-35) as proof that Jesus is the promised Messiah from the line of David.
This Psalm also reveals that the Messiah will be a priest in the order of Melchizedek (see verse 4), an idea that the author of Hebrews expands upon in Hebrews 7. Unlike the Levitical priests, Jesus came form the tribe of Judah, not the tribe of Levi. And even more importantly, He does not have to make sacrifices over and over like those earthly priests. He died once for all to cover all the sins of everyone who places their faith in Him. Take some time today to thank Jesus for making that sacrifice on your behalf.
