This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

May 10

Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 1:1-28

We begin a new section in our reading plan today. God installs a king over Israel as his vice-regent to bring security to the nation and build a temple where his manifest presence would be made known.

The Bible contains frequent accounts of women who could not have children who are enabled by God to conceive in a miraculous way. In addition to Hannah, Sarah and Elizabeth both come to mind.

Hannah is a great picture of how we need to bring our grief and our hurts to God. She poured out her heart to God so intensely that Eli the priest thought she was drunk. And in verse 19 we read that the Lord "remembered her".  When the Bible says that God “remembered” something, it is not implying forgetfulness. God always remembers—it is part of His nature. The statement that “God remembered” places an emphasis on His faithfulness and everlasting care. And in every place we see that phrase used in the Bible, God acts in some way on behalf of His people.

Take some time today to thank God for those times in your life where He has "remembered" you.
