Today's Reading: Joshua 24:1-33
Before his death, Joshua summons all the people and exhorts them to abandon all other gods and serve the Lord alone. The people promise to do that, even after Joshua warns them that they are incapable of doing that. So Israel renews their covenant with God. And until Joshua died, they generally kept their word. But as we'll see in the coming days, that didn't last for long.
It is easy to promise to follow God and obey Him. It's another thing completely to actually do that, and none of us do that perfectly. That is why we all need a Savior. However, there is value in our obedience and we receive a blessing from God when we live according to His commands.
