This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

April 13

Today's Reading: Numbers 21:1-35

Here we see both the judgment and mercy of God. The people rebel once again, so God sends fiery serpents among them and the people begin to die (judgment). But when the people confess their sin, God provides a way for them to be healed (mercy). But that healing required faith. Frankly, it didn't make a lot of sense that the way to be healed was to look at a bronze snake, but those who trusted God enough to do what He said were healed.

In His conversation with Nicodemus, Jesus revealed that the bronze snake on the pole was a picture of Him:

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
John 3:14-15 (ESV)

Today, we still receive God's mercy by trusting in the one way that God has provided for our sins to be forgiven - faith in Jesus. In some ways that doesn't make much more sense than looking at a bronze snake, but that is the only way we can have a relationship with a holy God and experience His mercy. Have you put your faith in Jesus alone?
