This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

April 11

Today's Reading: Numbers 14:1-45

My apologies for being so late with posting today's devotional.

A couple of things come to mind in this passage:
  • One of the reasons that the people grumbled against God is because they were living in the past. One of the best illustrations I've seen regarding this is driving a car. Most of the time while we are driving we need to be looking ahead through the windshield. Only occasionally do we need to take a glance in the rear view mirror to look for anything behind us that might present a danger. We should live life like that. We can learn from the past, but we can't live there.
  • The majority is not always right. Only Joshua and Caleb trusted in the promise of God to bring them into the promised land. The other ten spies focused on what they saw and their circumstances instead of trusting in God. And their report caused the entire nation to disobey God and suffer the judgment of not being able to receive the gift God wanted to give to them.
