Today's reading: Deuteronomy 29:1-29
The primary warning in this chapter is against going after other gods. Most of us are unlikely to worship gods of wood or stone, but we do have a tendency to serve other gods without even recognizing it. Anything that has a higher priority in our lives than our relationship with God is essentially another god. In our culture today, that could be our jobs, our material possessions, sexual pleasure, politics and even something good like our families.
While a gracious God will forgive us for going after these other gods as long as we confess that to Him and repent, that doesn't mean that we won't suffer some of the curses that accompany our disobedience. Take some time today to ask God to reveal any gods in your life that have become more important than Him. Then confess that to God and take whatever steps that are necessary to make sure that sin doesn't become a lifestyle.
