Today's reading: Deuteronomy 28:1-68
Here God lays out the blessings that will come to His people for obeying the Law and the curses that will come upon them when they disobey it. I find it interesting that the section that describes the curses is nearly four times as long as the section that describes the blessings. Perhaps that is because God already knows that the people are going to rebel against Him and the Law a lot more than they are going to obey it.
Fortunately for those of us who have placed our faith in Jesus, we have been clothed with the righteousness of Jesus so we no longer face God's wrath as a result of our sin. However, as we have pointed out recently, we still receive blessings when we obey God's commands and we often suffer the consequences of our sin when we disobey. God has never promised to take away the consequences of our sin, only to forgive us and spare us from judgment.
