Today's Reading: Deuteronomy 6:1-25
I want to focus today on two important truths in this chapter.
First, God warns the people that when they get into the land He is going to give them and they get to enjoy the fruits of the labor of others, they are going to be tempted to forget God and ignore His Law. I think that is still a danger for us today. When things are going well, it's easy to ignore God and think that we can live life on our own apart from Him. But when we do that we miss out on God's best for our lives.
Second, we see here that the home is to be the primarily place where Biblical training and instruction is to take place. Obviously the church has an important role in that process, but individuals and families are ultimately responsible for their own spiritual growth. If your spiritual development is limited to one hour on Sunday mornings, you just aren't going to grow the way God desires.
