Today's reading: Exodus 40:1-38
Although God's presence is certainly not limited to any building or structure, from the time the people of Israel were freed from slavery in Egypt until they settled in the Promised Land and eventually built a permanent Temple, He chose to manifest His presence in the tabernacle. Since the tabernacle was portable, it could always be set up in the midst of the Israelites as they traveled.
Once the tabernacle was assembled for the first time, it was filled with God's glory. When that happened, no one, not even Moses, could enter. We are reminded once again of God's holiness and our sinfulness. Without Jesus, we could never approach God on our own. Take some time today to think about that and thank God for the gift of His Son.
