Today's reading: Acts 7:1-60
When Stephen is arrested in the synagogue and accused of blasphemy for preaching the gospel, he makes his defense by explaining how Jesus is the fulfillment of the same Scriptures his accusers are attempting to use against him. As he is empowered by the Holy Spirit, Stephen gives an incredible testimony about Jesus in which he goes all the way back to the promise that God made to Abraham. He then recounts how that promise continued to be carried out through the patriarchs like Isaac and Jacob and Jacob's sons. He also implies that Jesus was just like Moses ins the sense that He was sent as both a ruler and redeemer.
But when Stephen calls his accusers "stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears", rather than repenting they stone Stephen to death.
How do you respond to God's Word when it reveals something that might be uncomfortable or that requires you to repent?
