Today's Reading: Genesis 1:1-31
This section of our reading will cover eight chapters - four from the Old Testament and four from the New Testament and will focus on the Creation. We will see that all three persons of the triune God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - are all at work in the act of creation.
The Bible begins with the words "In the beginning God..." And in this chapter we see that God is actively involved in creation. He doesn't merely "wind things up and let them take their own course". And the crowning achievement of His creation is man. Everything He creates in the first five days of creation, God calls "good". But on the sixth day, when He creates man, God says that is was "very good". (As an aside, take a look at verse 26 where God says "Let us make man in our image..." Here we clearly see the triune nature of God.) Man is the "crown jewel" of God's creation because he is created for the purpose of having an intimate, personal relationship with God.
Think about that today! God created you because He wants to have a relationship with you. Spend some time today to thank God for that.
