This Sunday's message: The Song of Zechariah

December 27

Today’s Reading: Luke 2:27-28; Psalm 24:3-6; Isaiah 40:1-2; Colossians 2:6-7
This is a neat picture that we see here. Simeon waiting in the temple, he did not go looking for Jesus (the Messiah), instead we see that he received the Messiah. That’s a great picture of salvation and how salvation works. It is a gift from God. It’s nothing something we go out and get. This doesn’t mean that we don’t seek Him or look for Him, it simply means that we are not the ones who can or will cause Him to appear. Apparently, the early church referred to Simeon as the “God receiver,” as he received the baby Jesus and praised God. Have you received Jesus? This gift of salvation? How can you respond today?
