Isaiah 24: “The Universe Judged”

Isaiah 24: “The Universe Judged”

A few days ago I stated that no nation is immune to the judgment of the Lord. I also recognize that it is hard to accept a God who judges in this manner. Whole nations and people groups impacted. But, we must remember that a loving Father will discipline His children. This is true of all cultures. We’ve all met those parents who don’t discipline their children. We know because of how their children act. This is no different in the world. A nation needs to be humbled, which is the message of many of these prophets to Israel, the Lord’s chosen nation. The Lord warns them over and over to repent and return, but they refuse, over and over. This chapter is an extension of the last section, this time reminding us that the rest of the world and universe will also face the same fate. The judgement of the Lord will come, to all. All the way down in verse 21 it speaks of the host of heaven on high. This may refer to the stars, or the heavens. In verse 23 it speaks of the moon and the sun, possibly playing off of verse 21. What we see here is a good reminder that God is greater than His creation. Because of this, and as confirmed here in verse 23, we know that the Lord will once again reign in Jerusalem. This seems to be pointing us towards Revelation 21, where there will be new heaven and a new earth where the Lord will reign. This was the Messiah that the 1st century Jews were waiting for, but the answer was here all along (see Luke 24:13-32, especially verse 27). Once again, the Lord is bigger than His creation and He is the righteous judge. No one is immune, but we all have a chance to be declared righteous, and that is by grace, through faith in Jesus. Do you believe?
