Psalm 41: “The Lord is Gracious”
You may remember when we started our journey through the Psalms that it is broken into 5 Books. This psalm concludes the first book. It may not seem like it on the surface, but this is another Messianic Psalm. We know this because in John 13:18, John quotes verse 9 of this Psalm when Jesus predicts Judas’ betrayal. When we look at this psalm with that background in mind, we can see that it more than a psalm of lament over an enemy or former friend. It paints the picture of the Lord’s suffering and the anguish that He went through on our behalf and so that all have the opportunity to be saved. It says that the Lord God protects the oppressed, and sustains the sick. He is described as the Great Healer, and is gracious. Finally, we are told that the Lord delights in His children, those who call Him Father. What a great and sustaining Lord that we have!
